So, you've signed up for Dash? Congratulations!

You are one step closer to the nirvana of effortless digital asset management. This guide shows you some of the key next steps to get you up and running.

Before we get started, take a look at our overview video that shows you around the main features:

Thinking about your workflows

When getting started with Dash, you will want to think about your core workflows, how they relate to Dash, and what features you will want to make use of to enable them.

Here are three common stages of most workflows that you might want to consider:

Bringing your assets into Dash

Questions to ask

  • Where do your assets come from? (in-house contributors, external photographers, agencies, user-generated content etc)

  • Of these sources, would you like them to submit assets straight into Dash?

  • What sort of approval process do you require before assets can be shared amongst other Dash users?

  • What existing assets do I need to import and from where?

Functionality to consider

Organising and searching

Questions to ask

  • What sort of searches do your users want to do? (Hint: ask them!)

  • What important pieces of information do you want to store about your assets?

  • What pieces of information are required to be known in order to facilitate your workflows?

  • Who is going to have access to Dash?

  • What folders and upload rights do you want to give to what groups of users

Functionality to consider

💡 Custom attributes are the key to effectively organising your assets.

Deploying and sharing

Questions to ask

  • Who are you going to be sharing assets with? (Clients, partners, distributors etc)

  • What sort of access do they need? Full search functionality, or just access to specific assets?

  • Will you be using assets for social media?

  • What download formats will you need?

  • Do you want to embed assets in your website or blog?

  • Do you want to access assets in 3rd party applications?

Functionality to consider

These core questions will help you plan how you are going to use Dash. When you are ready, now take a look at our 3 steps to getting started.

Our 3 steps to getting started...

1. Upload some assets!

The only way to really get a feel for Dash is by seeing your own assets in it. If you haven't already, the first thing to do is to upload some assets.

2. Create some new attributes

The power of Dash comes from being able to find and use your assets faster than ever before. To do this, you want to add useful information to them, that your users can then search for.

We've written a guide on how to use attributes, so check it out here:

Once you've added some attributes, tag some assets so you can try out searching and test if the attributes are going to work for you.

3. Invite users

Now you've got some assets uploaded and tagged, invite some users and ask them to try it out. Ask them to do some searches and see if they can find what they want. If not, this is great feedback to help you add or amend your asset organisation.

Simply visit Admin > Users to send invites. You can also control user permissions so users only have access to the right assets.

Now you're comfortable with the basics, it is time to really make your assets work for you.

1. Set up preset sizes

If you have resizes or crops that you perform on downloaded assets on a regular basis, you can set these up as presets so Dash can do it for you.

2. Theme your Dash

You can customise the look and feel of your Dash account to suit your organisation's brand, including logos, primary colour and background images for the search and login pages.

You're all set!

Congratulations - you are now a Dash master!
